Dept. of Orthodontics hosted the prestigious “Smile Torch” which is on all India tour and reached Lucknow on 16th September, 2015. Under this event Smile Torch -National Orthodontic Awareness Programme in BBDCODS on 18 September 2015. This occasion also included a selfie contest and a best smile in BBDCODS.

A Workshop/CME on “Current Regulatory Requirements for Members of Institutional Ethics Committees” was held at Dr Akhilesh Das Gupta Auditorium, BBD University, Lucknow on 15-16 Sept 2015. This Awareness Programme was organized by Clinical Developmental Services Agency (CDSA), Faridabad with Dr. Lakshmi Bala, Professor and Head Deptt. of Biochemistry, BBD College of Dental Sciences, BBDU as Local Organizing Secretary. CDSA is an Extramural Unit of THSTI, Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India. The goal of this workshop was to strengthen and empower the Ethics Committee members about regulatory norms, functioning, safety reporting, compensation and other important ethical issues in clinical research. In this context, CDSA is committed to organize 15 awareness program across the nation . This programme in BBD University was 10th in series and was held First time in Uttar Pradesh and in Lucknow.

In an inaugural ceremony, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, BBDU Dr AK Mittal, welcomed Dignitaries and participants. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Dr Ravi Kant, KGMU gave Inaugural Address and Key Note Address was delivered by Director, SGPGIMS, Dr. Rakesh Kapoor. Dean BBDCODS, Dr. Vivek Govila gave Vote of Thanks. Members of about 28 Ethics Committees from UP (Lucknow, Allahabad etc) participated in it. Some of the dignitaries were Dr BN Dhawan, Dr PK seth, Dr VP Kamboj, Dr Nuzhat Husain, Dr JS Srivastava, Dr RC Saxena, Dr UK Mishra, Dr AK Tripathi, Dr RK Garg and Dr Shally Awasthy, Dr Subhash Yadav, Dr Ghatak, Dr Palit and Dr AN Srivastava. CDSA team included Dr Ramateke, Dr Nandini K Kumar, Dr Sudhakar Bangera, Dr Suchita Banerjee, Dr Pawandeep Dhawan and Ms Neha Mishra.

Certificate of participation were given to all registered participants. CME credit hours (8 hrs) were given to all medical (MBBS and above) professionals. The workshop was appreciated by participants who also sent their best wishes for continued success of future such programs.

The Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology headed by Dr. Neeta Misra, BBD College of Dental Sciences organized a full day national CDE programme on “Laser in oral mucosal lesions” on 15th May 2015 under the aegis of Indian Academy of Oral Medicine & Radiology. It was attended by over 400 delegates from all over the country with a lot of enthusiasm.
The lecture session was conducted in Dr. Akhilesh Das Gupta Auditorium, BBD University Campus where Dr. Rajendra G. Patil and Dr. Nitin Agarwal, eminent and nationally acclaimed speakers from the speciality, talked on the soft tissue lesions in mouth which can be managed by the use of LASER.
Competitive e-poster session was held where a number of delegates presented their skills in poster presentation, which was also an attractive event for the delegates. Hands-on workshop was the concluding event in the full day programme, held at the Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology, BBD College of Dental Sciences, with participants sharing their experience as enriching and talking about bloodless surgeries and palliative management by using LASER to provide immediate relief to the patients with oral lesions.

Dept.of Oral Pathology organized a lecture on “Key to Bridge the gap between Oral health & Disease”: “Role of Oral Pathology” by Dr. Shaleen Chandra, Professsor& Head, Faculty of Dentistry, KGMU, Lucknow on 7th April, 2015 in the conference hall. The lecture was very knowledgeable.

A practical session on surgical technique including instrument handing and suturing under the guidance of Dr. Stuart Orton Jones, eminent implantologistfrom U.K. was conducted by Dept.of Prosthodontics on14th March, 2015. The work shop also focused on the complications in implant dentistry and their expert management.

In the modern world of internet and cyber space BBDCODS added a feather in the cap by organizing First Webinar in the college on “CROWN AND BRIDGE – CLINICAL POINTERS FOR SUCCESS” in association with Colgate 25th February 2015. Orator of the webinar was Dr. RatnadeepPatil, who expertly guided audiences regarding major and minor issues related to fixed prosthesis fabrication and placement that improve the success rates of the Crown and Bridge.

Dr. Y.N.Chaubey who is a renowned pulmonary medicine practitioner in Lucknow city conducted a very knowledgeable lecture session on Swine flu. . There was an epidemic of swine flu in Lucknow during the month of February 2015, which created a concern among health professionals. Dr.Y.N.Chaubey through his lecture created awareness among dental students and professionals regarding precautionary measures to be considered to prevent swine flu.

Dept of prosthodontics conducted a lecture by Dr. Sanjay Kalra on “Immediate extraction and implant placement and practice management tips” on 21st February 2015.

“Love is in the air” this quote proved itself in the successful and overwhelming participation of faculties as well as students at the fete organized at the portico area of the BBDCODS on 14th Feb, 2015. The atmosphere was all joyful and colorful with all females wearing Red dresses. A cookery competition was a part of the schedule along with various games stalls. Songs could be dedicated to anyone on the music booth. The greatest blockbuster was the stall for red and yellow roses which was always busy.

A three day workshop was held at the dept of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery of BBDCODS, BBDU, LKO Held in association with leading implant company,NOBEL BIOCARE,the workshop was aimed to train participants to place implants inside the cheek bone to support the fixed teeth in the upper jaw. Similarly, fixed complete dentures placed on " all on 4" concept where all teeth are replaced with only four implants was also demonstrated. Basic concepts of bone grafting and soft tissue management were also demonstrated. The work shop comprised of class room teaching, hands on followed by live surgical demonstration by mentors- Dr. Sankalp Mittal from Jaipur and Dr. Nagaraj from Chandigarh. Dr.A.P.Tikku, dean faculty of dental sciences, KGMU, Dr. Vivek Govila , Dean BBDCODS and Dr. Hemant Gupta , Head , Dept of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery were also present during the workshop. This innovative technique for teeth replacement for edentulous people would help patients get rid of removable dentures and problems associated with it.

Dr. Shiva Kumar Professor in Dept. of Oral Medicine and Radiology enlightened students of Conservative and Endodontics with the role of radiology in rotary Endodontics on 5th November 2014.

A lecture on immediate implants was delivered by Dr. Vivek Gaur by department of Endodontics on 4th November 2014. In this enriching program Dr. Gaur shared with us an emerging technique of rehabilitation based on Basal implants which work in a unique way, different from conventional dental implants.

Dept of Periodontics held a CDE Programme on Implant Rehabilitation, Current Concepts on 8th November 2014. Dr. SujeetBopardikar was the guest speaker for the day & he discussed about the pre & post implant restorative considerations.

0n 25th October 2014 a CDE program was organized by Dept of Oral Pathology & Microbiology on the Role of Dental Profession in Prevention Control & Palliative Care of Oral Cancer. Guest speaker for the day was Prof. (Dr.) Babu Mathew.

Department of Pedodontics and Preventive dentistry, BBDCODS conducted 36th National Conference of Indian Society of Pedodontics with Preventive Dentistry, for the very first time in the city of Lucknow from 14th -16th October, 2014. It was attended by a huge number of delegates from across the country as well as abroad. It was inaugurated by DCI president- Dr. DibyenduMazumder. A number of excellent lectures and workshops were conducted by esteemed clinicians and researchers of international fame. Dr. Andreasen, Dr. Stephen Wei, Dr. Justin Lee, Dr.Hong were the prominent speakers. The conference was a massive success with an overwhelming response.

A one day preconference course on rotary Endodontics was organized on 12 September2014 in Department of Endodontics as a build up to the national conference on 36th National Conference of Indian Society of Pedodontics with Preventive Dentistry.

Two days CDE Program on fundamentals of research methodology & workshop was organized on 5th& 6th September 2014. The main highlights of the CDE program were demonstration of G Power Software for sample size calculation, research design & error in research, critical evaluation of scientific article,synopsis, drafting writing manuscript & how to conduct journal club.This CDE was enlightened by eminent speakers, Dr. Nagesh Lakshminarayan, Professor and Head in department of Public Health Dentistry at Institute of Dental Sciences, Bareilly& Dr. ShyamSivasamy currently affiliated to Sri Venkateswara Dental College and Hospital, Chennai.

Dr. Neeta Mishra Professor & Head Dept of Oral Medicine & Radiology, gave a lecture on the use of aloevera, the natural cure of several ailments, its applications in endodontics on 27th july 2014 in Deptof Endodontics.

A guest lecture was delivered by Dr. Hemant Gupta, HOD, Dept of OMFS and Prof S.K. Sonkar highlighting various medical emergencies that can occur in a dental office and their management in department of Endodontics on 22th July 14. An overwhelming participation of post graduate students and faculty was observed.

On 11th July, 2014, BabuBanarsi Das College signed a MoU with Jan ParivarKalyanSansthan. On this occasion honorable Vice chancellor Dr. A. K. Mittal, Registrar Shree Sudharma Singh, Dr. VivekGovila, Dean, BBDCODS, Dr. S. Ahmed Ali, Dean Applied Sciences were also present. This MoU aims in working hand in hand for overall betterment of the society and providing them best dental care with state of the art treatment facilities here at BBDCODS.

Dept of Oral Pathology held a CDE program on “Guidelines to manuscript writing and slide discussion” on 2nd February 2014. Guest speakers for the program were Dr. Monica Solomon& Dr. MadhusudanAsthekar.

It is a proud moment for all the students and Faculty of BBD College of Dental Sciences, BBD University that now we are ranked as 5th among the top 20 Dental Colleges of India in a survey conducted by the siliconindia.com, an online community started in USA with Indian head quarters in banglore.

This survey was conducted to help the student’s community make better decisions for their career. Mr Vivek Singh, BDS IV year student has been selected to participate in Dentsply India’s Student Clinician Programme - 2014 to present his Table Clinic on “Dental Caries Vaccine: Journey from a Lucid Dream to Reality” on 20th February, 2014 at Hyderabad. It is a national event for the undergraduates to promote development of scientific research acumen among the young minds. Vivek’s achievement is special as he competed among over 500 students and if he wins, he will be awarded with a sponsored trip to present internationally.

The sports team of BBDCODS participated in the intercollege sports meet organized by King George’s Medical University on 26th November 2013. Our Kabbadi team won the Silver medal while the relay race team ran to snatch the bronze. It has been another addition to the tally of sports awards of BBDCODS students this year.

It was another display of the talents for our students when our two of the BDS final year’s, Ms. Indu and Ms. Renu Kumari, won 1st prize in two events - tattoo making and T-shirt painting in UDGAM 2013, on 23rd November 2013. It was a highly contested event organized by BBD Group of Educational Institutions.

The department of Oral Medicine & Radiology participated in the 25th Conference of Indian Academy of Oral Medicine & Radiology which was held in KGMU, Lucknow on 18-20th October, 2013.

Faculty members and students attended the 41st Indian Prosthodontic Society National conference at Ahmedabad from 14th to 17th Nov. 2013. Four paper presentations by faculty, 2 e-posters and 1 paper presentation by the students were done. Dr. Swati Gupta was awarded the Best paper prize for session.

A series of guest lectures by Prof. S.G. Damle, Vice Chancellor, Maharishi Marandeshwar University, Mullana, Ambala and Prof. Virinder Goyal, General Secretary, ISPPD were organized at BBDCODS, BBD University on 16/11/2013. In view of their visit to our city, these were planned so that the post graduates and Pedodontists of the Lucknow can be benefited by interactions with these stalwarts. Prof. S.G. Damle spoke on “Prevention and early detection of dental caries and it’s relevance in India” and Prof. Virinder Goyal on “Bleaching and composites-Essence of esthetics”. It was followed by the organising committee meeting of 36th Annual Conference of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry- PEDOFEST which is scheduled to be organised by our Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry from 14th to 16th October 2014.

The Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, BBDCODS organised "Rontgen day" on 8th November 2013 to mark the invention of X-Rays by Dr Wilhem Rontgen. The programme was supervised by Dr.Neeta Misra, Head of Department, and well attended by students and faculty members. An essay competition, a quiz and lecture were also organized.

A very informative guest lecture was organized at BBDCODS on 31/10/2013 in the series of events during the MOU signing programme between BBD University and Universiti Teknologi, MARA, Malaysia. Our esteemed guest speaker was Prof. Mohammed Ibrahim Bin Abu Hasan, Dean, Faculty of Dentistry, Universiti Teknologi, MARA, Malaysia. He enlightened the faculty and students of BBDCODS on the topic of “Outcome based education”. This Lecture was also preceded by a tour of the dental college to witness our world class facilities. Our Dean Prof. Shobha Tandon also felicitated the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Tan Sri Dato Sri Prof. Emeritus Mohammed Sahol Bin Abu Bakar and the guest speaker.

Department of Oral Pathology and Microbiology, BBDCODS organized a Guest Lecture on “Role of the Dental Profession in Prevention, Control and Palliative Care of Oral Cancer” by Prof. (Dr.) Babu Mathew, MDS (Oral path) MDS (Oral Med) organized on 18/10/2013. Prof. Mathew, a world renowned researcher and an authority in the field of oral cancers and pre cancerous lesions in India, shared his knowledge and experience with our faculty and Post Graduates. A long term acquaintance of our Dean Prof. Shobha Tandon, he is one of the very few double MDS of our country and we all were enlightened by his words and presence.

The Department of Prosthodontics organised a two day workshop on “Prosthodontic rehabilitation of Maxillofacial defects” in BBDCODS on 11th and 12th October 2013 which was attended by 85 participants from various dental colleges of Lucknow. The guest speakers were Dr. Veena Jain ,Head, Department of Prosthodontics, All India Institute Of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, Dr. Biju Abraham, Orthodontist, Mumbai and Dr. Gunjan Pruthi, Pool officer, AIIMS. The lectures and hands on sessions were well appreciated by the participants and faculty.


The Ist scholar’s conclave of BBDCODS under the ages-is of BBDU was organised on 12th July 2013.Eminent speaker Dr. Shally Awasthi ,Professor ,Department of Pediatrics spoke about the "Publication ethics" which was followed by a talk on "Biomarkers in oral cancer" by Dr. Nuzhat Hussain ,Dean, RMLIMS .Various research papers and poster presentations were made by the PG students and research faculty of the college as well.


Faculty Attended The International Academy Of Pediatric Dentistry Conference, IN Seoul, South Korea.

The International Academy of Pediatric Dentistry conference was held in Seoul, South Korea from 12th June to 15 June 2013. It was attended by Prof. Shobha Tandon, Dean, Professor & Head, Department of Pedodontics, BBDCODS and Dr. Nitesh Tewari, Senior Lecturer, Department of Pedodontics. It was a highly successful and informative conference with participants from all over the world. Professor Shobha Tandon chaired a symposium titled “ Dental stem cells for regenerative dentistry” , on 15th June, along with Professor Angus Cameron of Australia. She also delivered a lecture titled “ REGENERATION: Exploring new horizons in pediatric endodontics”. Dr. Nitesh Tewari presented a poster under The Jens Andreasen Award Category for Dental Trauma.


The team of Postgraduate students from the Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology, Babu Banarasi Das College of Dental Sciences, along with the head of the department Dr. Neeta Misra participated in the National Postgraduate Convention 2013. The event was organized by The Indian Academy of Oral Medicine & Radiology in the city of Vadodara, Gujarat with the theme of “Autoimmune Diseases of the Oro-facial Region: Know More No Less” on 14, 15, 16 June, 2013.

Dr. Neeta Misra (Head of the Department) was the chairperson at a scientific session held at the convention.

Dr. Akanksha Yadav (JR III) under the able guidance of Dr. Neeta Misra won the award for Best Research Presentation with the title, “Study of Reduced Salivary secretion in Rheumatoid Arthritis”.

Dr. Arpita Mohan and Dr. Akanksha Yadav (JR II), guided by Dr. Neeta Misra were awarded the Best Scientific Presentation Award for E-Poster at the Convention. The topic of the poster was “Treatment of Autoimmune Disease by Intense Immunosuppressive Conditioning and Autologous Hematopoeitic Stem Cell Transplantation”





AIM: World No Tobacco Day focuses on informing people about health problems associated with tobacco use.

World No Tobacco Day primarily focuses on encouraging users to refrain from tobacco consumption and its related products for a period of at least 24 hours. Keeping the Aims and Theme of WHO, Team from BBDCODS in collaboration with TATA motors is going to organize Anti Tobacco campainings for 5 days from 27th till 31st May in near by villages. This is being done to motivate and educate the general population about tobacco use and its ill effects on oral health by check ups, health talks and pictorial demonstrations. Mass screening and Collection of Smears from the oral mucosa of screened patients will also be done to rule out malignancy from tobacco associated lesions.
